Lifestory

Chabuca Granda was born in Cotabambas, Apurimac on September 3, 1920.

Her nickname was Chabuca. She was a Peruvian singer and composer.

She started singing when she was 12 years old. In her songs, she pays tribute to

Peru, its customs and traditions, and to the people of her time: Maria Lando, Jose

Antonio, Zeño Manue.

The Lyrics talk about her early years in Apurimac and about different places

around Peru, Puente de los Suspiros in Barranco, Rimac River and Alameda de los

descalzos , Pampa de Amancaes in Lima, and others.

She created and interpreted a large number of Criollo Waltzes with afro –

Peruvian rhythms.

Her best known song is La Flor de la Canela (Cinnamon Flower).

It became an anthem for city of Lima, and it is Chabuca Granda is most well-

known song.

Her musical genre was folk, Peruvian music.

She was a very famous singer and songwriter. She died on March 8, 1983.
